Canadian musical comedy troupe the Arrogant Worms will be performing a benefit concert at McNab Public School on Thursday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m.
Proceeds from the performance will go to the school’s new play structure, which will be constructed in early 2009.
Yes, that’s right, Canada’s favorite musical comedy trio — the one that had its music played on the space shuttle; the one that beat out AC/DC for best band ever on CBC’s The Roundup; and the one that counts Carrie Fisher, Meg Ryan and Ben Heppner among its fans — at McNab Public School.
The Arrogant Worms — Trevor Strong, Chris Patterson and Mike McCormick — are a Canadian institution, having toured the country 131 times and releasing such classics as The Last Saskatchewan Pirate, We are the Beaver and Celine Dion, the world’s banking system.
They formed at Queen’s University and soon after began getting airplay on CBC radio with frequent appearances on shows such as Basic Black and the Radio Show.
Bravely tossing aside their post-secondary education, they began touring in 1993 and have not stopped yet, to the delight and amazement of all.
This will be a special show for McCormick as both his children attend McNab school and come home at night in tears; wishing that they had something new to play on during recess.
McCormick has promised them that he would do something about it, though calls to Cheryl Gallant’s office remain unanswered.
Then he remembered that he played in a band that did concerts where people paid money to enter and said to the kids, “Go to bed!”
