Packers end winning streak with loss to Shawville, pick it up with victory over CP
"It was a terrible game, but the score looks worse than the game actually was."
The Arnprior Jr. B Packers ended their streak of success on Friday night in Shawville, losing to the Pontiacs 10-3, their first loss in November.
“It was a terrible game, but the score looks worse than the game actually was,” said coach Shawn Patrick.
He chalked the big loss up to the team’s sloppy play.
Friday night’s first period started off well with Arnprior captain Steve Frost scoring at 10:06. Shawville netted two quick goals only 49 seconds apart at 11:03 and 11:52. Neal Ross responded for Arnprior, scoring at 12:51. The Pontiacs didn’t let the tie stick for very long and scored two goals only 39 seconds apart at 19:08 and 19:47 to end the first period 4-2 in their favour.
Shawville stole the second period scoring three goals and keeping the Packers off the score sheet altogether.
Arnprior had 10 shots on goal in the second period and the Pontiacs had 16. The second period ended with the Packers trailing 7-2.
Shawville started the third period off by scoring two quick goals at 3:27 and again at 4:20. Kyle Couvieau scored for Arnprior at 15:14 to make the score 9-3, but that didn’t stop the Pontiacs, who scored their final goal at 17:03.
Packers’ goalie Joel Grills faced 36 shots in the game while Shawville netminder, Mathieu Croussett faced 27 shots.
Arnprior redeemed themselves on Sunday night with a 4-3 win against the first-place Carleton Place Kings at the Nick Smith Centre.
Patrick was happy with the team’s play on Sunday and said it was his third game of the year with a full lineup.
The Kings dominated the first period, scoring two goals and shutting the Packers out.
Arnprior came out ready to play in the second period. Adam Cavaleri scored at 4:21 and Adam Cybulski scored at 7:54 to tie the game at 2-2 and kept Carleton Place off the score board for the remainder of the period.
The third period belonged to Adam Cavaleri who scored at 5:17 and 14:16, netting himself a hat trick. Carleton Place responded at 15:58, but the Packers held on for the win.
Arnprior had 19 shots on goal while the Kings had 31.
